The monumental landscape of the Lofoten leaves no one untouched and stimulates a wide variety of fantasies
Did Odin, Zeus and Jupiter meet here in times past to display their status in traditional mythology? Lightning, thunder and falling rocks would certainly have accompanied these divine games and would have given the landscape its unmistakable appearance today.
In the Lofoten Islands there are mountain after mountain, gorge after gorge and from a bird's eye view the rocky landscape actually appears to resemble a lynx's paw. Water is everywhere - whether as surf on the coast, at speed in the maelstrom near Moskenes or at the countless small and large waterfalls.
Perhaps it was not the battle of the gods that sculpted this landscape, but undeniably the natural forces of wind and water have given Lofoten its distinctive face. Or were they angry gods supported by trolls and titans?
